Windsurf no longer exists as a separate product. Visiting windsurf.com now returns a permanent redirect to devin.ai, Cognition’s coding agent, and the pricing, plans and desktop application you land on are Devin’s. If you came here looking for the Windsurf editor as a distinct purchase, that is the thing worth knowing first.

What you get instead is an agent aimed at completing tasks rather than autocompleting lines. The desktop application is where the work happens, and the free tier is real: unlimited inline edits and tab completions, with a light quota for the agent itself.

The pricing is unusually honest

Free gives limited model availability and a light agent quota, but unlimited completions. Pro at $20 a month raises the quotas and unlocks full access to OpenAI, Claude and Gemini models along with cloud agents. Max at $200 a month is the same product with substantially higher limits.

The detail that stands out is what happens when you exceed your quota. Extra usage is billed at API pricing rather than cutting you off or forcing an upgrade. That is a fairer arrangement than most competitors offer, and it means a heavy month costs money rather than blocking work.

Teams is $80 a month as a base plus $40 per developer seat, which is worth calculating carefully. A four developer team pays $240 a month, against $80 if each of them simply bought Pro. You are paying the difference for centralised billing, an admin dashboard, sharing and priority support, so the question is whether administration is a problem you actually have.

Where to be careful

The gap between Pro at $20 and Max at $200 is quota, not capability. Before paying ten times more, establish how often you actually hit the Pro limit, because overage at API pricing may well be cheaper than the jump.

The larger caution is the acquisition itself. Products that get absorbed tend to have their older branding retired, their pricing restructured and occasionally their features folded into something else. Anyone who adopted Windsurf specifically should expect continued change rather than treating the current plans as settled.
