Flow Music (formerly Riffusion)

Generating original background music and full songs from a text description, at a price that suits regular use.

Riffusion has become Flow Music. The old address redirects, the branding has changed, and what you land on is a music generator that turns a written description into a finished song with vocals, instrumentation and structure.

The original Riffusion was a research curiosity that generated audio by producing spectrogram images. What exists now is a consumer product with playlists, projects and music video generation, so anyone arriving from the old reputation should expect something considerably more finished and considerably less experimental.

Pricing is unusually cheap for what it does

Starter is $6 a month for 3,000 credits, which the vendor puts at roughly 600 songs. Plus is $18 for 10,000 credits or about 2,000 songs, and Member is $48 for 30,000 credits and around 6,000 songs. Paying yearly takes 25% off.

Six hundred songs for $6 works out at a cent each, which is low enough that credits are unlikely to be what limits you. The more meaningful difference between tiers is concurrent generations, rising from 2 on free to 8, 12 and 16. If you work by generating several variations and picking the best, that number shapes your workflow far more than the credit count does.

The free tier is genuinely usable rather than a teaser. Daily top-up credits and all core features mean you can produce real tracks without paying, with 2 concurrent generations as the main constraint. Anyone whose need is occasional should sit on free for a while before deciding which paid tier fits.

The Flow Music playground for experimenting with prompts and styles

A playground exists for testing prompts and styles, which is worth using before spending credits on full generations. Prompt phrasing changes the output substantially, and the difference between a usable track and an unusable one is often wording rather than settings.

Where to be careful

Check the licensing terms before using output commercially. AI music sits in an unsettled area around training data and rights, and the position varies between vendors and keeps moving. Read what the plan you are buying actually grants rather than assuming generated means unencumbered.

There is no API, so this is a product you use rather than one you build on. For a video team producing scored footage at volume, that means someone sitting in the interface rather than generating tracks from a pipeline.

The rebrand is worth watching too. Products that change name and address mid-life sometimes change pricing and terms shortly afterwards, so treat the current plans as accurate today rather than settled.
