Civitai is where open-weight image models live in practice. Checkpoints, LoRAs, embeddings and now video and 3D models, published by the people who trained them, with the prompts and settings behind community images visible alongside.

Two different audiences use it for two different things. One group comes to download models and run them locally. The other generates in the browser because they do not have the hardware. The site serves both, which is why it looks like a gallery, a model repository and a generation tool at once.

Buzz is the thing to understand first

Generation is paid for in Buzz, and there are two kinds. Green Buzz is what memberships grant monthly. Blue Buzz comes from daily rewards and activity. Every membership tier is described almost entirely in terms of how much Buzz it grants and how much bonus it adds, so comparing tiers without understanding the currency is not really possible.

The practical consequence is that you cannot judge whether Bronze is enough until you know roughly how many images a month you generate. Work that out first, then read the tiers.

What memberships add

Bronze at $10 a month grants 10,000 Green Buzz, 5% bonus Buzz on purchases and 1.5x on daily rewards, plus ad-free browsing and Civitai Link for syncing resources to a local machine. Silver at $25 raises that to 25,000 Buzz, 10% and 2.5x, and adds priority support.

Gold at $50 grants 50,000 Buzz with 20% and 4x bonuses, and is the only tier that changes the generation experience itself: 100 private models, 12 images per job rather than fewer, and 10 queued jobs. If throughput matters rather than raw volume, that is the tier where it changes.

Every tier includes the Creator Program, which lets model authors earn from the Buzz spent on their work. For anyone publishing rather than only consuming, that is a more meaningful feature than the Buzz allowance.

Where to be careful

Licence terms on community models vary considerably, model by model. Some permit commercial use, some do not, some restrict it to certain outputs. Checking the licence on the specific model you plan to use is your responsibility and it is not something the platform decides for you.
